Entrepreneur turns old union building into his headquarters
As the owner of a funky little bicycle shop, Fleetwood Hicks is no stranger to taking the road less traveled. He uses the same off-the-beaten-path approach to real estate, too. About 10 years ago, the entrepreneurial 40-something started collecting 10 properties in the Cedars,
around Akard Street just south of Interstate 30 near downtown. He had cash to burn after selling a highly successful men's streetwear company popular for its skater tees, hoodies, board shorts and accessories.
Real estate wasn't a random investment route for Hicks. According to the Southern Methodist University grad, who now runs Fleetwood's Kit Kat bicycle shop near the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Central Expressway, he had dabbled in commercial real estate.
