AmericaSpeaks: Saturday, June 26th
I am hoping you will be able to help identify people in your district who will register to participate in this rare national forum. To help encourage participation, I did confirm that there will be simultaneous Spanish translation through headphones when the group is addressed as a whole and there will be bi-lingual facilitators at each table throughout the discussion.
We will also be arranging transportation as needed, if we know there are groups of people who can meet at one location for pick up and drop off. Also, there will be childcare available and the registration sign-up will ask if it is needed. Below are more details, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information or if you want me to reach out to these people directly.
AmericaSpeaks (www.americaspeaks.com) is non-partisan non-profit that is organizing this exclusive event around the country and Dallas is one of the select cities participating. The data gathered at this event will be shared with members of Congress. It is a rare and unique opportunity to take part in, but space is limited and they will need to sign up quickly to reserve their spot. They are looking for people who are interested in how the federal budget affects our economy.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 26th, at the Dallas Convention Center from 10:30am to 5:00pm. They are only allowing 500 people to participate and there will be a waiting list for people whose demographics are sufficiently represented. They will divide the participants into smaller groups of 10-12 diverse people with a trained facilitator at each table to help guide the discussion. There is no preparation required to participate, just a basic understanding of the federal deficit crisis. AmericaSpeaks has briefing materials on their website to help anyone get up to speed on the latest issues, if they need it.
Attached are English versions of the registration flyer and FAQa. Also, below are two links in Spanish of the same:
