Affordable Housing Charter Adopted
The Cedars Neighborhood Association adopted an Affordable Housing Charter at its meeting on August 26, 2010.
Here are the results of the vote:
Yes = 33 votes = 79%
No = 9 votes = 21%
Total = 42 votes, including proxies
The Charter is posted at cnadallas.com under Member Forum/ Urban Development/ Affordable Housing Charter.
The Charter applies to any affordable housing development within the Association’s boundaries where state, county, or city funds are utilized for such development.
The stated purposes of the Charter are:
1. To attract new developments that serve a diverse group of residents, thereby allowing residents to opt for other housing choices while remaining in their neighborhood.
2. To encourage development of amenities that are a benefit to the neighborhood, and that will in turn generate employment for under-employed residents.
3. Ensure that the developments are built and managed by people who are experienced in the type of project that is proposed.
4. Provide the neighborhood with adequate time to understand the proposed development and provide the developer with adequate time to respond to neighborhood feedback prior to the application deadline.
The Board will establish a procedure for updating the Charter in response to member feedback. The procedure will:
1. Receive proposals from the membership for revisions to the Charter.
2. Present those proposals to the membership for their vote.
3. Incorporate approved changes into the Charter.
The anticipated time cycle is 3 to 6 months, depending on the amount of response from the membership.
